Why does nobody talk about burger.com?

burger.com is an interesting website to me because while it is a classic and simple domain name, this is not owned by any big shot burger restaurants or other big corporation. It is owned by an attorney named Donald Ray Burger. This site has been owned by this same guy ever since he got it in 1996. Whats also interesting is this site has retained its same design since then, and on top of that the site still gets new posts every now and then. Crazy right? You think he might would've sold it by now, but this site has been going strong since then.

Ok to be honest, burgerland meme brainrot is likely what has me interested in the first place, but while I may have came for the memes, I stayed for the lore. A lot of questions came to mind when I thought about this. The main one of course being the title, why does nobody talk about burger.com? An easy dismissive answer would be that most people who use the internet nowadays use the same small handful of social media websites and never go out of their corporately curated bubble. Fair answer, but I'm not satisfied with it. The reason for this is because when I look up burger.com in search engines, while I will of course get burger.com itself, I see next to no one talking about it. All I found was this very brief blog post about it that just answers the question of who owns the website, which you can literally find out just by visiting it since Donald Ray Burger is literally on the index page. I also found a silly youtube video that is called burger.com but has nothing to do with the actual website and is just an old video of someone flipping burgers with spongebob music playing in the background. That was all I could find. There may be more out there somewhere on more obscure indexes or something, but thats the thing that perplexes me. You would think there would be at least a couple more posts or videos talking about it that are not that hard to find. Going into this I figured maybe there would be a handful of youtube videos and writeups from 2008 or something talking about it, idk. I did not however expect burger.com to be this...esoteric. I guess in a way it makes sense since its just an old website occasionally maintained by an attorney, so people may not find that interesting, but the domain name alone is legendary, not to mention his last name is Burger and his email address is even burger@burger.com! xD

Anyways, I can understand other burger related stuff fading into obscurity, and to an extent I can even understand burger.com having the same fate, but the thing thats so weird about this is it seems like it was either never that popular to begin with, or most discussion about it is unlisted or on dead websites or forums or whatever. I mean come on, this is burger.com! You really expect me to believe nobody over the years looked up burger.com and was pleasantly surprised with what they saw and decided to talk about it somewhere on the internet? My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

So what is this website actually about anyways? Well we know Donald is an attorney, but I'm not going to pretend that I'm particularly interested in the actual attorney related stuff since I don't have a standard of comparison to tell if Mr. Burger is an unironically good attorney (I really hope some people call him Mr. Burger irl xD). I will at least say he seems to be very transparent about what he does as an attorney and also has a lot of resources on his website. That being said, he also has food recipes, hurricane and other crisis preparation guides, book recommendations, and much more. I don't know about you, but this guy seems pretty based if you ask me. You'll see websites on the indie web nowadays that are like this from time to time, but not often. I would say this site was ahead of its time or whatever, but it was more so a sign of a simpler time since back then it was more common to see people have their own website rather than just signing up to today's social media sites and leaving it at that. It was also more common to see content like this back then since standards have changed so much over the years. I genuinely love this website and hopes it sticks around for the foreseeable future.
